After being a bit frustrated seeing a bunch of answers along the lines of no, this is not therianthropy, I’m a therian and don’t feel this way!
under a post, I wanted to write a quick reminder that no, therianthropy is not one big, equivalent experience for everyone. And, thus, I posted this text:
Text
This is just meant as a friendly reminder that therianthropy is essentially an umbrella term for many different experiences. Which (unfortunately, since this makes things a little harder) means that we can’t generalize from our own experiences to this is what therianthropy is like [for everyone]
. We can only say this is what therianthropy can be like [in some cases]
.
Some of us experience species dysphoria (in lots of different ways, I might add!). Others don’t. Some transgender therians experience being transgender as quite similar to therianthropy (such as myself). Others experience in very distinct ways. Some have phantom limbs. Other’s don’t. Some experience shifts. Others don’t. And so on.
You not experiencing something (that another therian does experience) is not making you any less of a therian. Not any less valid
(I hate that term, as I find it to be meaningless in that context, but I guess this is important to some). But also: you experiencing something related to therianthropy does not mean every therian experiences it. That, too, doesn’t make you any more or less of a real
therian. We are all different. And that’s beautiful! Can we please stop generalizing from our own experience to this is what therians are [/not]
? It just doesn’t work that way. And quite often, despite the best of intentions, it generates misinformation…
